GCB is short for GraphiCarb. It is a kind of graphitized carbon material with lamellar structure, which has good retention for planar molecules. The activated carbon resin commonly used in the laboratory has large adsorption capacity, but the adsorption is an Irreversible process, and the extract is difficult to elute, so it is not suitable for use as SPE adsorbent. Graphitized carbon overcomes the irreversibility of activated carbon adsorption, while maintaining high affinity and adsorption capacity for polar and non-polar oil-based substances. Therefore, it has excellent characteristics such as high purification efficiency, high recovery rate, and high reproducibility, and is widely used in pesticide residue analysis and sample pretreatment with high pigment content. In addition, graphitized carbon is not a porous material, and the time to reach adsorption equilibrium is short, which can save sample processing time. Plant samples often contain a lot of pigments, such as chlorophyll, Lutein, Carotenoid, etc. These compounds usually have an impact on the pesticide residue analysis results and analytical instruments, so they need to be removed. Experiments have shown that graphitized carbon black has the best retention of such interfering substances and is an essential adsorbent in pesticide residue analysis.
