Plastic vials are used in ion chromatography, for heavy metal analysis, for polar (e.g., proteins) or pH-sensitive samples and AAS, CE applications. The use of plastic vials is highly recommended when analyzing pesticide residues as some of these compounds (e.g., phosphonate, nicotine, paraquat, diquat, streptomycin and glyphosate) tend to interact with glass surfaces. Such interactions with glass surfaces are typically more pronounced in solutions composed of aprotic solvents (e.g., acetonitrile). Increasing water content and/or acidity typically reduces such interactions. Percent losses due to such interactions are typically higher at low concentrations.
